From exploring Galway to hiking in the Wicklow Mountains, this journey offers a balance of adventure and relaxation, perfect for first-time visitors or seasoned travelers.

Day 1: Arrival in Dublin & Drive to Galway

After touching down in Dublin, you’ll pick up your rental car and begin the scenic 3-hour drive to Galway. Known for its lively atmosphere and coastal charm, Galway is a great place to kick off your Irish adventure. After settling in, enjoy a relaxing dinner at one of the city’s many cozy restaurants.

Where to Stay: Glenlo Abbey Hotel & Estate

Day 2: Falconry Experience & Exploring Galway

Your second day begins with an unforgettable falconry experience. You’ll have the chance to fly falcons and owls in a peaceful countryside setting, learning about the ancient art of falconry. After this hands-on experience, spend your afternoon leisurely exploring Galway. Wander through the vibrant Latin Quarter, visit Eyre Square, and soak in the city’s medieval charm. In the evening, treat yourself to traditional Irish music at a local pub.

Day 3: Full-Day Wild Atlantic Way Tour

Day three is dedicated to discovering the best of the Wild Atlantic Way. We recommend a full-day combination coach and boat tour offers an action-packed journey through some of Ireland’s most stunning landscapes. This small-group format tour of 15-20 people allows you to explore like a local rather than getting off a bus with 80+ people at every stop. You’ll board the tour bus in Galway, passing through the quaint towns of An Spidéal and Rossaveel, with a stop at The Burren, a unique limestone landscape known for its unusual rock formations and rare flora. Afterward, hop on a boat tour to the Cliffs of Moher, where you’ll witness the towering cliffs from a unique perspective – rising dramatically from the Atlantic Ocean. This unforgettable boat ride offers an entirely different view of the cliffs, revealing hidden sea caves and cascading waterfalls.

From there, you’ll take the ferry to Inis Oirr, the smallest of the Aran Islands. On Inis Oirr, you’ll have three hours to explore its rugged beauty. Highlights include O’Brien’s Castle, a medieval fortress that stands proudly overlooking the island, and the hauntingly beautiful Plassey Wreck, a shipwrecked vessel that adds to the island’s mystique. As the day winds down, return to Galway with memories of the Wild Atlantic Way etched into your mind.

Day 4: Connemara National Park & Cliffs of Moher by Land

After a day of sea adventures, it’s time to head inland to Connemara National Park, known for its rugged mountains, boglands, and dramatic coastline. Spend the morning hiking the park’s trails, visiting the famous Kylemore Abbey, or simply taking in the incredible views of the Connemara landscape. Later in the afternoon, you’ll make your way to the Cliffs of Moher, this time by land, where you can stand on the cliffs’ edge and admire the sweeping panoramas of the Atlantic Ocean. A sunset visit offers particularly stunning views as the sun dips below the horizon – and, insider tip, if you arrive around 5:30 PM most of the tour busses have already left so it is significantly less crowded.

Day 5: Drive to Dublin & Guinness Storehouse Experience

Bid farewell to Galway and set out for a scenic drive back to Dublin, taking roughly 2.5 to 3 hours. Once back in the capital, check into your accommodations before visiting the iconic Guinness Storehouse. Here, you’ll learn about the history of Ireland’s most famous stout and enjoy a personalized pint, known as a Stoutie, with your face printed in the foam!

Where to Stay: The Shelbourne

Day 6: Exploring Dublin

Dublin is brimming with history and culture. Start your day by visiting Trinity College to see the ancient Book of Kells, a stunningly intricate manuscript dating back to the 9th century. Continue to Dublin Castle and St. Patrick’s Cathedral, both offering a glimpse into the city’s past. Spend the afternoon wandering along Grafton Street or visit the National Museum for a deeper dive into Irish history. Round off your day with dinner at one of Dublin’s trendy restaurants or a pint at the a local pub.

Bonus – Not sure which pubs to try? Here are a few of our favorite pubs in Dublin: Hogans, O’Regans, Grogans, Ciss Maddens, Sheehans Pub, Dame Tavern, Neary’s Bar & Lounge, and The Stag’s Head. A number of these are close to each other if you feel like pub-hopping.

Day 7: Glendalough & Ballinastoe Wood Hike

Escape the city for a day trip to the Wicklow Mountains, located about an hour’s drive from Dublin. Begin your morning exploring the ancient monastic site of Glendalough, where you can wander through the ruins of old churches and round towers. Afterward, take a short drive to the Ballinastoe Wood hike, a stunning trail that offers views of the Wicklow Mountains and the serene Lough Tay (often referred to as the “Guinness Lake” for its dark waters and creamy beach). This scenic hike is the perfect way to experience the natural beauty of the area.

Day 8: Return Car & Departure

On your final day, enjoy a leisurely breakfast or coffee in Dublin before heading to the airport to return your rental car and for your flight back home. Take time to reflect on the incredible adventures you’ve had over the past week, from soaring cliffs to vibrant cities, ancient castles to untouched islands.
